Must see saxophone TV
This is the hippest! Lester is the second solo in! Doc Cheetham and Milt Hinton are playing here. I got a chance to play with both of these guys when I was in school. Some amazing stuff.
I love this piece of music. John Coltrane expresses the anguish, anger, disgust, misery that represents the outrage felt over the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in 1963 that killed four innocent young girls. Music is a great medium to express ideas about social and political issues of our time. As you hear and see here, words are not always necessary to get across the underlying theme.
Art Blakey with Wayne Shorter. This is cool!
This is your sight reading exercise for the day. Hip, Hip, Hip!!!!
Pharoah Sanders is one of the most transcendental cats I have ever heard. His album “Karma” is an affirmation that there is divine hand in what Pharoah does and the “Love Supreme” aspects of Coltrane’s playing. All for the glory and honor of God. David Sanborn is here as well.
I have to throw this in. Its the guitarist Bill Frisell, but one of most original musicians I know is playing here. Ron Miles is one of the greatest, most innovative trumpeters of our time. He falls into the same category with Trane, Pharoah, and other greats. Frisell is smart to hire him.
The Rascher Saxophone Quartet. A music video for classical saxophonists. This is actually very hip. Hip, Hip, Hooray!
More classical saxophone. Yes it is the most versatile instrument ever made!
Ornette Coleman. Yes. Can you dig it? I knew you could.
Miles Davis. “So What”
And with Trane and the Ball.
Sometimes your ego just needs to hear someone like this.
Tis is something special!
